Video Compressor

Shrink a video's file size by re-encoding it, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

This loads a real video encoder (FFmpeg, compiled to run in the browser) the first time you use it — about 25–30 MB, one-time per visit. Compression happens entirely on your device, so it uses your computer's own processing power: a short clip (under ~1 minute) usually finishes in well under a minute, but a long or very large video can take several minutes and needs a reasonably capable device. Works best on desktop browsers; very large files may run out of memory on phones.

How this works

The video is re-encoded using the H.264 codec at the quality level (CRF) and resolution you pick — a higher CRF number means more compression and a smaller file, at some cost to visual quality. This is the same underlying approach desktop tools like HandBrake use; it just runs inside your browser tab via WebAssembly instead of as an installed app.
